Liu Wei (* 27. November 1987 ) is a Chinese boxer in the welterweight division .

Career

Liu was Chinese champion in 2012 and 2015, won a bronze medal at the Strandja Tournament in Bulgaria in 2014 and a silver medal at the Chemistry Cup in Germany. He also beat the World Cup bronze winner Araik Marutjan . At the Giraldo Cordova Cardin Tournament in Cuba he won the gold medal after defeating the vice world champion Arisnoide Despaigne , among others .

At the Asian Games in 2014 and the Asian Championships in 2015, he remained medalless. In October 2015 he started at the World Championships in Doha . There he reached the semi-finals by winning against Bjambyn Tüwschinbat and the reigning European champion Eimantas Stanionis . He missed the finals due to a point defeat against the Moroccan Mohammed Rabii . He also qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, where he was eliminated in the first fight against Eimantas Stanionis.

He reached the quarter-finals at the 2017 Asian Championships .

World Series of Boxing

In the 2015 season, Liu fought for China Dragons in the World Series of Boxing . He played five of the season's seven fights, but won only two.
