Livio Minafra

Livio Minafra (born September 16, 1982 in Bari ) is an Italian jazz musician (piano, keyboard , composition ).

Minafra is the son of the jazz trumpeter Pino Minafra ; his mother Margherita Porfido is a pianist and harpsichordist. At the age of ten he had his first piano lessons with Francesco de Santis. In 2001 he played in Pino Minafras Sud Ensemble . He completed his studies at the Niccolò Piccinni Conservatory in Bari in 2004 with distinction. In 2002 he recorded his first solo album La Dolcezza Del Grido ( Leo Records ). From the 2000s he also worked with Keith Tippett ( Viva La Black - Live at Ruvo ), the MinAfric Orchestra , the Municipale Balcanica ( Foua ) and in the Canto General formation (with Roberto Ottaviano , Roberto Bellatalla , Louis Moholo ). Another solo album followed in 2007, La Fiamma e il Cristallo , which he recorded for Enja , where his quartet album Surprise !!! (2011) appeared. In the following decade he also took the Borgo Ensemble ( Ngracalate Osci ) and Radiodervish ( Bandervish on); with Moholo he released the duo album Born Free on Incipit in 2015 . Tom Lord lists him in his discography between 2002 and 2007 for six recording sessions.

Minafra teaches jazz piano at the Conservatorio Piccinni di Bari. In 2005, 2008 and 2011 he won the Italian jazz prize Top Jazz .
