The Liyuan Dam is a CFR dam under construction on the Jinsha Jiang River (Chinese name for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River ), on the border of the Yulong and Shangri-La counties in the Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China . The dam has a hydropower plant with a total nominal output of 2400 MW, each composed of four turbines and generators with 600 MW each. Construction work began in 2008. Commissioning of the power plant was planned for 2012.

The 155 m high dam will dam a reservoir with 727 million m³ of storage capacity, of which 209 million m³ will be usable space. The normal storage target is 1618 m above sea level, the lowering target is 1602 m. The catchment area is 220,000 km² and the water surface 14.73 km².

The construction costs are 16.2 billion renminbi , the equivalent of 2.4 billion US dollars.
