The Wudongde hydropower plant ( Chinese  烏 東德 水電站  /  乌 东德 水电站 , Pinyin Wūdōngdé Shuǐdiànzhàn ) is a gigantic hydropower plant built by the China Three Gorges Corporation on the lower Jinsha Jiang , the upper reaches of the Yangtze River , on the border between the Sichuan provinces (district Huidong ) and Yunnan ( Luquan County ) in southwest China . The dam will be in the section between Luchelin 陆 车 林 and Wudongde 乌 东德. Work on Baihetan and Wudongde is expected to begin in 2009 and be completed in 2020.

A cavern power plant with 5 machines each will be built on each side of the river , which together will have an installed capacity of 8,700  MW . The annual production of the power plant will be an estimated 39 billion  kWh .
