Lyubomyr Dmytrowytsch Dmyterko (born March 18, 1911 in Wynnyky , Galicia , Austria-Hungary ; † October 2, 1985 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian writer, poet , novelist , playwright , essayist, screenwriter and translator .

Life

Lyubomyr Dmyterko was born into a family of teachers in Wynnyky in what is now the Ukrainian Lviv Oblast . From 1928 he studied at the educational institute in Kamyanets-Podilskyj and between 1930 and 1932 he attended courses in screenwriting at the Kiev Film Institute.

He published his first book in 1928 and his first collection of poems in 1930. Dmyterko wrote in the style of socialist realism mainly about popular heroism, socialist work, the struggle for peace and against the oppression of imperialism. He was a member of the authors group "Western Ukraine" ( Західна Україна ) and from 1943 a party member of the CPSU (B).

Dmyterko worked as an editor at the Kiev film studio and was from 1962 editor-in-chief of the magazine "Heimat" ( Вітчизна ). In 1979 he received the Taras Shevchenko Prize, the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR.

Dmyterko lived in Kiev and died there at the age of 74. He was buried in the Baikowe Cemetery in Kiev.
