"Composition candles" from the United Wax Goods Factory Hornung and Dr. Fischer KG

The LOBA GmbH & Co. KG is a family owned company of the chemical industry based in Ditzingen . The company was the world's first manufacturer of ski wax and a pioneer in the field of thermal insulation composite systems .

history

The United Wachswarenfabriken AG Hornung and Dr. Fischer (VEWA) was founded in 1922 by Wilhelm Hornung and Max Fischer and entered in the commercial register on June 30, 1922. They took over an older production facility for wax goods in Ditzingen, which was founded in 1917 by the chemist Rudolf Ungerer and in 1921 became the property of the Heilbronn trading and industrial bank. Fischer, a passionate ski jumper , invented ski wax and launched it under the name "Holmenkol-Mix". In addition, the company initially mainly produced floor stains (including the first water-resistant stain for wooden floors) and floor cleaners, as well as shoe polish , leather grease and household candles . By 1930, the United Wachswarenfabriken were already the largest business tax payer in the municipality of Ditzingen. In 1937 the previous stock corporation was converted into a limited partnership . Production fell sharply during World War II . After the end of the war she was completely inactive for three months. In October 1945 the company was taken over by the military government and held in trust until the end of 1946.

After the product range was expanded to include construction paints, special varnishes for sports equipment and floor sealing varnishes (1952), the company was divided into three business areas. In contrast, the production of candles and shoe polish ended in 1952/53. In 1959 Loba launched the world's first thermal insulation composite system under the "Dryvit" brand. The oil crisis brought this business field increasing sales figures in the early 1970s. The acquisition of a plot of land in Freiberg am Neckar (1964) made it possible to outsource the facade paints and plasters division (production and sales) to a new branch (Plant II). After the chemist Kurt Weinmann joined the company, the name was changed to Loba-Holmenkol-Chemie Dr. Fischer and Dr. Weinmann KG .

From the beginning of the 1990s, Loba concentrated on maintaining the value of parquet, wood and cork floors. The facade protection division was spun off to Loba Bautenschutz GmbH & CO KG in Freiberg am Neckar in 1993 and sold to the building materials manufacturer Lafarge in 1996 . In 1998 Loba founded a subsidiary in Poland ( Loba-Wakol Polska Sp.z oo ), and in 2007 in the USA ( Loba-Wakol LLC , based in Pineville, NC). Also in 2007 the company opened a representative office in Dubai, and in 2014 Loba Trading (Shanghai) Company Limited for the East Asia business .

In 2018, the adhesive manufacturer Wakol GmbH took over the majority stake in the company as part of the Ardex Group . The study TOP 100 SME Ranking 2019 by the management consultancy Munich Strategy classified Loba as one of the fastest growing SMEs in Germany.

Holmenkol

At the end of the 1990s, Loba was the market leader in the field of ski waxes in Germany and Japan with its Holmenkol division. In ski jumping, 95 percent of all athletes worldwide use Loba products. In 2002 Holmenkol was spun off into Holmenkol Sport-Technologies GmbH & Co. KG , merged with Nanogate Technologies GmbH from Saarbrücken and later converted into a stock corporation. The company headquarters was relocated in 2007 from the Loba headquarters in Ditzingen to the Heimerdingen district . By 2007 the Holmenkol products were used by 40 national teams.

In 2012, Holmenkol AG filed for bankruptcy and, after being converted into a GmbH, was taken over by Sporto-med GmbH in Flörsheim-Dalsheim. In 2014 the location was relocated from Heimerdingen to Ludwigsburg . In addition to ski wax, Holmenkol also produces agents for impregnating clothing and sailcloth.

Products
