The Lobach (according to the responsible Wupperverband also Lohbach ) is an approximately 4.3 km long orographically right side stream of the Eschbach in Remscheid , which in turn flows into the Wupper .

course

The Lobach runs from the Rosenhügel district in a westerly direction through the Papenberg district, then past Honsberg and Kremenholl to the south . In the Hammertal it flows south west of the Ehringhausen district.

Large parts of the Lobach were canalized and straightened .

The source is underground. The Lobach first steps for an approx. 200 m long section. Then it runs underground again for about 246 m until it comes to the surface again in the Papenberg district. It ran underground for a long time south of the Honsberg district, but this part of the stream has been renatured since 2016.

After that it unites with the Kremenholler and the Linklauer Bach . South of the district of Tyrol with the tributary of the Tyrolbach, it flows into the Eschbach. This point at which the Lobach flows is called "Am Großer Steg".

Ten more or less preserved hammer mills testify to the former industrial importance of the Lobach valley and the hammer valley. Hammer mills and similar early industrial facilities were powered by water power at the time, which is why they were dependent on the proximity of rivers. Fire salamanders and newts have settled in reconstructed ponds belonging to the former “Jagenberghammer” . Because of the cultural and historical significance of the stream and the significant surrounding forest, the area of the stream has been designated as a nature reserve since November 15, 2001 and is subject to a change ban.

According to the water quality class map of the city of Remscheid, the water of the Lobach had quality class II in 2002.
