Lochfoot is a town in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . It is located approximately eight kilometers west of Dumfries and 17 kilometers northeast of Castle Douglas in the traditional county of Kirkcudbrightshire . Lake Lochrutton Loch borders directly to the south .
history
Historically belonging to the lands of the Maxwell clan , there is a Maxwell fortress around one kilometer southeast with the Tower House Hills Tower . The defense tower was probably built by Edward Maxwell between 1528 and 1566 .
The 1971 census survey counted 166 people in Lochfoot.

Lochfoot is on a side road from the A711 (Dumfries– Argrennan ). Furthermore, with the A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ) running around one kilometer to the north, a national trunk road can be reached within a short time.
