action

Taylor lives with her parents in a lonely farmhouse in Kentucky . One evening the family is having dinner and talking about problems at school. Suddenly a clattering noise can be heard from the barn next to the house. Father Chris goes there armed with a rifle and meets Jerry who was digging in the stable. He takes the rifle from him and Chris is shot in a scramble when his wife Anne Marie arrives. Taylor also sees her father die.

Two years later, Taylor was busy with her horse when her mother had another nervous breakdown and needed pills. Anne Marie is so nervous that she has not left the house for a long time, which the daughter increasingly criticizes. While the television news announces an impending storm with violent storms, Taylor drives to his old neighbor Francis to bring him a wrongly delivered package. He shows her a radio that he found in the basement and says that she can come in through the back door at any time. He also gives her an old photo of Taylor's family. Then the young woman drives to a shop where she talks to her friend Blake about her worries. Meanwhile, inmate Draven, who escaped from the state prison, is on the road with a stolen sports car and the police fear that the storm could make the search more difficult.

When Taylor is about to hang up the photo, she finds a slip of paper behind another photo with a note from her father: “If something ever happens to me, you will know where to find it. But leave my family out of it. ”There is also a drawing that refers to the barn. In the ground under the hay she finds a bag with a lot of cash and a gun. She calls Blake over and shows him the find. In doing so, she expresses the suspicion that her father was murdered because of this money. Then the two bury the bag again. In private, Taylor tells Blake that the money could help her leave the unloved house. As the storm is just getting stronger, Draven knocks on the front door. He claims that he is on his way to see his family and that his car is empty. Anne Marie is insecure and asks Taylor for advice, but Taylor only reacts negatively. When the mother tries in vain to call a number that Draven gave her, the daughter joins them. Taylor also tries in vain to contact the breakdown service and warns her mother about the potentially dangerous man. But this lets Draven go into the barn. Taylor follows Blake and confronts the man with the rifle drawn. It indicates, from Fort Wayne ( Indiana to come) and medical supplies to sell. Blake urges Draven to take him to the store and get gasoline. In the car, he tells him that Taylor's mother doesn't know about the relationship and generally has problems with strangers. However, he cannot find enough gas in the store. Taylor convinces her mother to let Blake in and introduces him. Draven is hiding behind the car when Sheriff White passes by. Taylor does not open the door for him, however.

When Anne Marie, Taylor and Blake are having dinner, Draven knocks again. The mother lets him in and gives him dry clothes that belonged to Chris. Draven spontaneously takes care of the defective drain in the kitchen. Taylor goes with Blake in the basement and shows him a newspaper report of a robbery at the Derby in Louisville . She says the money in the barn came from this crime that was committed two years ago. Blake warns her about dangerous men, but she sees the money as a godsend. Anne Marie talks to Draven about Taylor and Chris, also saying that she feels trapped in the house.

Taylor finds a note in Draven's jacket pocket with her address, Willow Creek 1401. She and Blake also discover that his car's tank is full. So she confronts the man who has just rummaged in the cellar with the rifle and locks him behind the cellar door. When Draven breaks free, the situation escalates. Draven knocks Blake down and runs away with the rifle. Taylor runs to Francis' house and finds the old man dead on the floor. She calls for help on his radio; the radio message reaches Sheriff White. Draven follows up and tells Taylor that he just got the wrong house at Francis. When he attacks the young woman, Blake arrives, but Draven shoots him down.

A little later, Taylor and Anne Marie are tied to chairs in the basement. In this situation, the daughter reveals to the mother the story of the money and her father's involvement in the crime. Then the sheriff comes, but Draven shoots him. He says that Chris' killer Jerry was his cellmate and told him about the Derby heist. Chris did not reveal the exact hiding place before his death. Draven now threatens with the gun, but Taylor points out the necessary medication for her mother. While Draven is talking to Anne Marie upstairs and confronting her with her fear, Taylor frees herself from the basement. In her panic, Anne Marie reveals the hiding place against Taylor's will, whereupon Draven forces the daughter to dig up the bag. Taylor fights the criminal upstairs. Anne Marie overcomes her fear and saves her daughter. She shoots Draven, who is about to flee with the money.

When the problems are over, she decides to move out of the lonely house with Taylor. With her daughter and Blake, who survived Draven's shot, she drives away in a good mood.
