The Lok Sabha constituency of Chengalpattu (until 1971 Chingleput ) was a constituency in the elections for Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament , from 1957 to 2004 . It belonged to the state of Madras or after its renaming in 1969 to the state of Tamil Nadu . Most recently, it covered a large part of the Kanchipuram district . The constituency was named after the city of Chengalpattu (Chingleput). As part of the reorganization of the constituencies prior to the Lok Sabha election in 2009 , the Chengalpattu constituency was converted into the Kanchipuram constituency .
