Lola Anglada (* 1892 as Maria Dolors Anglada i Sarriera in Barcelona ; † September 12, 1984 in Tiana , Province of Barcelona ) was a Catalan writer , illustrator and cartoonist . She mainly wrote and illustrated children's books.
Life
Lola Anglada was close to the Noucentisme cultural movement in Catalonia, which emerged in the political environment of the Catalan movement Solidaritat Catalana (Catalan Solidarity) founded in 1906 by Enric Prat de la Riba . At the age of 13 she was already drawing for the cartoon magazine ¡Cu Cut! . At the age of 17, her first work appeared in the issue of En Patufet magazine . In 1916 she illustrated an obituary for Oscar Wilde . In 1918 she traveled to Paris, where she worked for numerous French magazines and wrote her first book: Contes del Paradís (Tales of Paradise) was published in 1920 with text and drawings. During the Spanish Civil War she joined the UGT labor movement and worked for the Propaganda Commissariat. After the war she settled permanently in Tiana, province of Barcelona . She died on September 12, 1984 in her family's summer residence.
