Lomelosia sphaciotica is a species of the genus Lomelosia in the subfamily of the cardaceae (Dipsacoideae).
features
Lomelosia sphaciotica is a perennial, woody subshrub with prostrate stems and reaches a size of 3 to 20 centimeters. The leaves are linear or linear-lanceolate and pinnate. Their sections are broadly elliptical. The heads are mostly 8-, rarely up to 13-flowered. The shell does not protrude beyond the flowers. The calyx bristles are twice as long as the outer calyx border.
The flowering period extends from May to June.
Occurrence
Lomelosia sphaciotica is endemic to the mountains of Crete . The species grows on rocks, rubble heaps and sinkholes at altitudes of 1400 to 2400 meters.
Systematics
This species was named Scabiosa sphaciotica Roem in 1818 . & Schult. first described and recombined in Lomelosia sphaciotica (Roem. & Schult.) Greuter & Burdet in 1985 .
There are two geographically separate subspecies:
- Lomelosia sphaciotica subsp. sphaciotica occurs in the Lefka Ori . The leaves, head stalks and bracts are white wool.
- Lomelosia sphaciotica subsp. decalvans (Halácsy) Bergmeier (Syn .: Lomelosia sphaciotica var. decalvans (Halácsy) RLJahn ): It occurs in psiloritis and in the Dikti mountains . The head stalks are bare. The leaves and bracts are green and more or less hairy. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
