London Contemporary Orchestra

The London Contemporary Orchestra is a symphony orchestra founded in 2008 by Robert Ames and Hugh Brunt in London.

The orchestra especially promotes contemporary music, from new music to cross-over of electronic and experimental music. The orchestra has worked with numerous composers, singers, instrumentalists and music groups from various musical genres, such as Actress , William Basinski , John Cale , Ed Finnis, Jonny Greenwood , Frank Ocean , Radiohead , Shiva Feshareki and Terry Riley . Venues range from the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall to London Underground stations such as South Kensington Station or Aldwych , which is popular as a film set , as well as other renowned concert halls in Great Britain.

In addition to Olivier Messiaen , Xenakis and Giacinto Scelsi , the orchestra's repertoire also includes film music, the performance of which the orchestra has repeatedly participated in since Paul Thomas Anderson's film The Master . For example, the LCO was involved in the score of films by directors Naji Abu Nowar (Theeb, 2015), John Maclean (Slow West, 2015), Majid Al Ansari (Rattle the Cattle, 2015), Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, 2015; Assassin's Creed, 2016), Alex Helfrecht and Jörg Tittel (The White King, 2016), Stuart Gatt (The Dead Sea, 2016), Ridley Scott (Alien: Covenant, 2017), Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here, 2017) and most recently, also by Paul Thomas Anderson, The silk thread , 2017, which received an Oscar nomination for best film music in 2018 , and Suspiria by Luca Guadagnino .
