Relocation 2007 - 2012

After the State Council of the People's Republic of China and the Central Military Commission granted the People's Liberation Army's main witness office to set up a satellite launch base in Longlou municipality in August 2007 , the main witness office immediately began acquiring the land it needed. For this purpose, around 6000 people had to be resettled from the administrative villages of Xingguang (星光 村) and Longlou (龙 楼村) as well as in the far south of the area from the administrative village of Zhongshan (中 中) of the large municipality of Dongjiao . In the 19 natural villages of Xingguang alone, 520 families with a total of 2,627 people were affected. The Xingguang Administrative Village was dissolved. As a replacement was on a 100-hectare site south of the population Community Longlouxu, the center of Longlou, the inhabitants Community Hangtian (航天社区), or "space", built. At the inaugural celebration of the community of residents on April 24, 2012, 3449 people were registered there, but not all of them lived there.

In the community of residents there are 1121 apartments, 100 of them in high-rise buildings and 1021 apartments in apartment blocks; each resident has an average of 35 m² of living space available. There is also a kindergarten, an elementary school, a farmers market and a community center with a library, police station, doctor's office and a multimedia computer training room. Although the majority of the resettled farmers could not find work - tourism in Hainan is now concentrated in the southern half of the island - according to official information, crime does not occur above average in the community of space travel.

Bronze drum mount

Bronze drum

The Bronze Drum Mountain (铜鼓岭, Pinyin Tónggǔ Lǐng) is a 338 m high elevation at the easternmost point of the island, its name is derived from the Han period bronze drums that were found there during the Song Dynasty . As the mountain is the highest point in the area, General Ma Yuan (14 BC - 49 AD) used it as a place to restore order after the fall of the short-lived Xin Dynasty (9-23 AD) Feldherrenhügel (at that time snail horns were used to attack and the signal to retreat was given with drums). The mountain was also used for military purposes during the Second World War; there are still old bunkers and a lighthouse.

The mountain is densely forested, and in 1987 a 13.3 km² area around the summit was designated as a national nature reserve (国家级 自然保护区). During the inventory carried out at that time, tiger pythons , which are subject to protection level 1 in China, 10 species of mammals ( rhesus monkey , Chinese pangolin etc.), more than 20 species of birds ( hedge cuckoo , bankiva chicken , owls etc.), sea turtles , and 40 - 50 m off the coast around 100 species of coral and more than 400 species of fish living there. In addition, there are 908 plant species on the mountain, which had increased to 984 by a second inventory in 2004, distributed over 168 families or 629 genera .

At the top of the mountain there was originally a coastal radar station of the Chinese Navy . In mid-2013, when the rough construction work on the cosmodrome was finished, a unit of telecommunications soldiers moved in and installed devices for receiving telemetry data, tracking and controlling the rockets ( Telemetry, Tracking, and Control , TT&C for short ). In November 2013 they were ready, and in December of this year the first joint exercise with the control center of the cosmodrome (指挥 控制 中心, Pinyin Zhǐhuī Kòngzhì Zhōngxīn ) to test all systems took place. The simulated missile launch exercise was successful. Due to the exposed location on the summit of the mountain, on a headland that marks the easternmost point of the island, the TT&C station is heavily exposed to summer typhoons . Originally, the main antenna of the station had to be placed horizontally in the event of a storm warning and lashed with wire ropes . Like the station's smaller antennas, it is now protected by a radome . In addition, there is the extremely salty air - the station is only a few hundred meters from the beach - which means that unprotected metal surfaces begin to rust after less than half a year. 19 ° 38 '22.8 "  N , 111 ° 1' 46.2"  E
