Lonnie Shields

Lonnie Shields (born April 17, 1956 in West Helena , Arkansas ) is an American blues musician (guitar, vocals) and songwriter .

Life

Shields grew up in a religious environment and came into contact with gospel music at an early age . He played soul and funk before he got into the blues through his friend Sam Carr . He played in Carr's Unforgettable Blues Band and with other local blues musicians such as Frank Frost and Big Jack Johnson .

Shields had his first band, The Checkmates, when he was 15; they played in the style of Earth, Wind and Fire and The Isley Brothers . When the band broke up, Shields gave up the music until he met Sam Carr. A little later he was out with Carr, Frank Frost and Big Jack Johnson.

In 1986 Shields appeared at the first King Biscuit Blues Festival , whereupon he was offered a single recording. In 1992 his first album Portrait was released , which received good reviews. Since then, Shields has been a sought-after guest at blues festivals around the world.
