Lonzig

Lonzig is a district of the community of Gutenborn in the Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt , which is best known for its military training area to the west .

location

The village is located immediately north of the state border with Thuringia , at the transition from the Altenburg-Zeitzer loess area to the Saale-Elster sandstone slab .

history

Lonzig was first mentioned in 976 as Villa Lonisgo in a deed of donation from Emperor Otto II to the Zeitz diocese . Until then independent municipality Lonzig was on July 1, 1950 after Schellbach incorporated, Schellbach on 1 January 2010 after Gutenborn.

Attractions

On the eastern edge of the village there is a two-storey mill system made of quarry stone , clay and half-timbered buildings, built in the 18th and 19th centuries. A war memorial on the main street commemorates the fallen of the First World War. It is based on the Leipzig Völkerschlachtdenkmal and has a representative staircase as well as a memorial block surrounded by trees of life .
