The Looptroop Rockers , formerly just Looptroop , are a Swedish hip-hop group. With a few exceptions, they rap in English. The Looptroop Rockers are particularly popular in Scandinavia and with North American and European hip-hop fans. Most of your texts deal with classic left-wing social criticism .

history

Looptroop was founded in 1991 by Promoe and DJ Embee , who already knew each other from school. A year later, Cosmic joined the group as the third member. Her first tape was released under the title Superstars . After a US tour by DJ Embee, Looptroop released their second tape Threesicksteez in 1995 . On this, the members had already worked with MC Supreme, who became a full member of the Looptroop in 1996. In the same year they released From the Wax Cabinet .

Between 1996 and 2000, Looptroop released several EPs on their own label David vs. Goliath ( David versus Goliath ). They were the first Swedish rap group to record and produce their albums completely themselves. During this time they also played with groups such as the Arsonists , High & Mighty , Mass Influence , Non Phixion , Pharoahe Monch and the well-known American rapper Xzibit . The group sparked controversy because of the violent lyrics of their songs "Jag Sköt Palme" (" I shot (Olof) Palme ") and "Ring Snuten" (" Call the police ") after they were played on the state radio station P3 . State radio was sued for the broadcast, but was later acquitted.

In 2000 their debut album Modern Day City Symphony came out, which earned them a lot of praise from critics and fans. The successor The Struggle Continues followed in 2002 . In 2005 they released their third album Fort Europa . In 2008 the fourth and newest album Good Things followed , which was released under the new band name "Looptroop Rockers".

Promoe also released solo albums. First Government Music , then Long Distance Runner . He became known beyond Scandinavia with his singles Off The Record and These Walls Don't Lie . In 2006 he released his third solo album, White Man's Burden . In the summer of 2007 he released a B-side album ( Standard Bearer ) with a film of the same title. The film shows a live concert in Copenhagen and some creative processes for the third solo album.

With rappers like Timbuktu or Chords from JuJu Records, a label also from Sweden, some featureings have already been made .

Looptroop can also be heard on the graffiti videos Area 08 and Area 08 - 2 . Rumor has it that some of the actors in the videos, who for the most part show the illegal painting of trains, are members of Looptroop.

In early 2007, Cosmic announced that he would be leaving the group for good. The reason he gave was that the busy schedule meant that he could not look after his family enough. There was no quarrel between the group members. On the fourth album Good Things , released in 2008 and released under the new band name Looptroop Rockers, Cosmic is represented.

In mid-May 2010, rapper Promoe announced at a show in Helsinki that Cosmic was an official member of the band again and that a new album was already being worked on. This was then published in March 2011 under the name Professional Dreamers .

The group celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017 with 25 publications in 25 weeks. The campaign started on April 28, 2017 with the digital single City Camo .
