Lore Hummel

Lore Hummel , b. Guske (born July 28, 1915 in Karlsruhe ; † November 6, 1997 in Neustadt an der Donau ) was a German art designer, picture / children's book author and illustrator.

Life and artistic work

In 1923 her family moved to Nuremberg . There she went to school and started a family. Lore Hummel, who had already enjoyed painting as a child, first studied art in Nuremberg and from 1950 took private drawing lessons with Wolfgang Felten in Munich . Due to the turmoil of the war, the artist ended up in Altmannstein , where her son, the famous pianist and composer Franz Hummel was born in 1939 .

Since the late 1950s, the now divorced artist has illustrated and wrote numerous books for children (including for Engelbert Dessart Verlag, which was founded in 1948 ) and became one of the best-known children's book artists in Germany. Their imaginative animal, elf and dwarf kingdoms, into which their own childhood dreams are woven, have found their way into many children's rooms . Lore Hummel illustrated around 100 picture / children's books, including stories, fairy tales, prayer books, Christmas and Easter books and, above all, pixie / dwarf stories (probably inspired by the works of Ernst Kreidolf and Fritz Baumgarten ). In addition, she has edited and drawn numerous anthologies with songs, poems and fairy tales, as well as designed postcards and Advent calendars (including for Adolf Korch Verlag, founded in 1951 ). She also created the designs for the so-called porcelain Lore figures.

In the market museum in Altmannstein there is a showcase with porcelain figures, original drawings and some picture / children's books by the artist.
