Lorenz Wilhelm Straub

Lorenz Wilhelm von Straub (born March 12, 1839 in Ulm , † February 3, 1926 in Stuttgart ) was a German high school teacher . For many years he was the rector of the Eberhard-Ludwig-Gymnasium in Stuttgart.

Life

Straub attended the grammar school in Ulm until 1853, then from 1853 to 1857 the seminar in Blaubeuren. He studied theology and philology in Tübingen (1857–1862) and Munich (winter semester 1862/63). In between, educational trips took him to Paris and Italy. After a doctorate to Dr. phil. he passed the humanistic professorial council examination in 1869 with success.

From 1865 he was a teaching as Repetent on Theological Seminary to in Urach. In 1870 he got his first permanent position as a professor in the upper department of the Oberhofengymnasium in Ellwangen. In 1875 he came as a professor at the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, which he headed from 1900 until his retirement in 1912 as rector. In 1902 he was appointed senior teacher. At the same time he was an assistant professor for history and cultural history at the Technical University of Stuttgart from 1885 to 1900 .

Straub was an admirer of Hellenic ideals. In several writings he dealt with the ancient poetry. For the lessons he wrote books about the work of Goethe . He was awarded personal nobility for his services by King Wilhelm II of Württemberg .

Straub was politically close to the National Liberal Party . He was married to Anna Marie Groß from Tuttlingen, the marriage remained childless.
