The Lorenz Pavilion (also: Lawrence Pavilion ) is a small, insider in 1912, rotunda in Auer city park. It serves as decoration and as weather protection when walking in the park and is surrounded by a pond . In 1994/1995, the Au city administration had the entire system reconstructed and the roof of the pavilion and the pump system for the water features renewed. The pavilion with the water systems has been part of the Heidelsberg cultural monument since 1996 .

Naming

The pavilion was named in honor of Bernhard Lorenz , who headed the Auer Beautification Association since 1898. Lorenz had achieved prosperity as a factory owner in Aue at the end of the 19th century and supported the activities of the local beautification association founded in May 1895 with donations and active cooperation. Inside the dome-vaulted small temple reminds one bronze - honor roll of Lorenz's work for the common good: "This temple was built in honor of our long-standing chairman Mr Bernhard Lorenz factory owner from Verschönerungsverein i. J. 1912 ".

history

The Auer Stadtpark am Heidelsberg was created from 1895 as a recreational area for the working class families who immigrated in the course of industrialization. The founder of the Hiltmann & Lorenz machine factory , Bernhard Lorenz, donated the money for the construction of the pavilion. The activities for this came from the beautification association founded in 1895, which had set itself the goal of " beautifying the city with regard to its non-profit facilities and creating and maintaining similar facilities". The inauguration of the park attendant in 1905 was a first success for the stated objective.

The inauguration of the pavilion took place on August 10, 1912 . For this purpose, guests and members of the beautification society gathered inside the temple and unveiled the plaque of honor. A representative of the association combined his speech with the request that the city should protect the pavilion "at all times ... so that it remains an ornament and ornament of the city park". Lorenz, who himself took part in the celebration, thanked the association and its supporters for the honor.

In the 1940s, the beautification association, which had also taken care of the preservation of the temple until then, was dissolved. Since then, even after the end of the war and during the GDR era , the pavilion fell into disrepair and was almost forgotten. Only after German reunification , the reduction of industry in Aue and the expansion of tourism, the city park regained importance. In the local budget, money was earmarked for the renovation, which took place around 1994/1995.

Architecture, description

The simple round building, whose bell-shaped dome roof is supported by eight white simple round columns, was built from 1898 onwards. The overhanging edge of the roof resting on the column support ring is designed like a cassette on the underside. The copper roof sheets are structured in strips with rectangles. In addition to the stone structure, a water feature and a small watercourse with a wooden pedestrian bridge were created at the same time . The pavilion, which can be reached sideways over the bridge or from below via several steps, is located below a lookout point from the city park. A wrought iron grille between the pillars protects visitors from accidents.

The pavilion, which was extensively reconstructed in 1995, received a. a. a new copper roof. The water features also newly created. During the previous renovation of the Heidelsberg site, the city had already renewed the watercourse and had a second bridge built.
