Loretta Walz (* 1955 in Stuttgart ) is a German director , author , film producer and lecturer for film production and media design a . a. at the University of Luxembourg , from 1988 to 2008 she taught at the UdK Berlin . Walz was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2006 for the film Die Frauen von Ravensbrück , and in the same year received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for her life's work. Walz's focus is on documentaries in the field of history and biography. She has been working in this area since 1980. Victims of National Socialism have their say in many of their films . The interviews reflect different life situations during the time of the Nazi regime in Germany - from persecution to resistance to everyday compulsions.

In January 2005 her book And then you come there on a beautiful summer day was published - The women of Ravensbrück . It introduces 35 contemporary witnesses who were imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp . In the following, award-winning documentary, the author draws on more than 200 video portraits that she created with women from 15 countries over a period of 25 years. In 1980 she began work on the interview collection Resistance Live - Women's Biographies , which continues to this day. With this project since 1980 Loretta Walz has created one of the largest collections of video interviews with survivors of the Nazi era. The collection comprises a total of over 750 hours of visual material. In the long term, all interviews for educational work as well as for science and research are to be made freely available in an online video archive. In September 2010 the first season of the database with 50 interviews was activated for use in schools.

The production company Loretta Walz Videoproduktion has existed since 1980, offering documentaries for cinema and television and creating contributions for youth and adult education, for memorials and museums on all subjects related to history and biography. Walz lived in Berlin from 1981, and in Düsseldorf since 2007.
