Lot's Ait is an island or Werder ( English Ait ) in the tidal section of the Thames near Brentford in the Borough of Hounslow in London , England . The island has a size of approximately 4,738 m².

history

Lot's Ait is often named together with neighboring Brentford Ait . The island was previously used to grow grass for cattle feed and wicker willows . It was once known as Barbel Island (Eng. Barbel Island ) and a productive fishing area. From the 1920s until the late 1970s, there were on the island a workshop for repairing boats . The workshop was sold and closed, the island overgrown. In 2002 the island was put up for sale and there was a preliminary official utilization plan with the possibility of operating a restaurant and a boat storage facility.

The island is accessible via a pedestrian bridge and at low tide you can walk from the shore in Brentfort to the island. The island can be reached by boat from Goats Wharf near Brentford High Street.

In 2011, the island was leased by the local company, John's Boat Works, which put the ship's workshop back into operation. In January 2012 a new footbridge was built connecting the island to Brentford on Smith Hill.
