Lothar Branzke

Lothar Branzke (* 1931 in Berlin ; † June 28, 1987 there ) was a German sports journalist from the GDR .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1948, Branzke became an editorial member of the Berliner Zeitung . As a teenager he was already active in the cycling department of his club SG Semper Berlin, organizing cycling races . During his time as an editor , he became the head of the sports department and was heavily involved in the Rund um Berlin race , which was later held as the Grand Prix of the Berliner Zeitung thanks to his initiative . His journalistic priorities included, in addition to reports on cycling, boxing (he published a series of articles on Joe Louis ) and figure skating . Branzke reported on many world championships and other sporting highlights on these sports in the Berliner Zeitung, in the German Sportecho , in the Junge Welt and in the cycling magazines of the GDR. In 1962 he became the editor in charge of the magazine Der Radsportler (from 1968 as a freelance journalist) and remained in this responsibility until 1981.

At the same time, he was press officer for the races on the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle track in Berlin.
