Lothar Wilhelm Pongratz (born January 7, 1952 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate ; † July 2, 2013 in Paderborn ) was a participant in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid as a bobsleigh driver in the 4-man bobsleigh and senior world champion in the discus throw . As the son of Herrmann and Hildegard Pongratz, he grew up with his four siblings in Weiden in Upper Palatinate and Arnsberg . Until his death he was married to Cornelia Meinders-Pongratz and has two daughters.

Athletic career

Lothar Pongratz started his sporting career in athletics. In his youth he was a successful national discus thrower. Here he achieved successes at state and German championships. He always remained loyal to this sport and also achieved success in the senior camp at national and international level. Most recently he achieved the title of Westphalia champion in discus and for the first time in hammer throw in 2013 when he died unexpectedly in preparation for the German championships.

Lothar Pongratz graduated from the Universities of Bochum and Essen with a degree in economics and business administration . After completing his studies, he worked for Nixdorf Computer AG in Paderborn. Artistic activity

Lothar Pongratz designed sculptures from various materials and used stone, wood, concrete, plaster and bronze. The resulting forms are free forms as well as images of people and animals.

He also devoted himself to painting, painting large-scale pictures primarily with oil and acrylic paints. The use of watercolors and watercolors, as well as drawing with charcoal and pencil, is also reflected in the pictures by Lothar Pongratz.
