Lothar Schneider (born December 3, 1953 ) is a German soccer player .

Career

With the A-youth team of MSV Duisburg, the midfielder won the German championship on July 2, 1972 in Stuttgart against home VfB Stuttgart with a 2-0 win . In addition to Lothar Schneider, the talents Klaus Bruckmann , Werner Schneider , Ernst Savkovic , Hans-Jürgen Baake and Ronald Worm also developed under coach Willibert Kremer . For the round 1972/72 seven players moved directly from the successful A-youth into the squad of the professional team to coach Rudi Faßnacht , including Lothar Schneider.

In the 1972/73 Bundesliga season, the then 18-year-old Lothar Schneider made it into the professional squad of MSV Duisburg . He made his debut for MSV on matchday 7 in a 0-0 draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf . When Duisburg moved into the DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt in 1975 , Schneider was in action in the surprising 3-2 away win on February 8, 1975 at Bayern Munich. In the 2-1 semi-final success after extra time on April 30th against Borussia Dortmund, he was substituted on for Worm in the 75th minute. He was not used on the final day. In the 1975/76 round he took part in the competition of the UEFA Cup with the MSV . Duisburg was eliminated in the second round in October / November 1975 against Levski / Spartak Sofia. In both matches Schneider played in the MSV midfield alongside Theo Bücker and Kees Bregman . He was unable to assert himself decisively in the next four years and in 1976 switched to the then Bundesliga club Tennis Borussia Berlin . In 1977 he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga North with this. He finished 10th in the 2nd division in 1977/78 with the "Veilchen", played 35 league games and scored four goals. For the 1978/79 round he moved to Switzerland for FC Sion . He played from 1981 to 1983 for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Oberliga Nordrhein, where he scored 12 goals in 53 games.

After a broken shin, Schneider had to end his professional career. But he still played as an amateur.

Trivia

Since 1989 he has been working as a retail salesman for a company in Duisburg.
