This was followed by 19 more appearances in the 1974/75 season and four appearances in the UEFA Cup against Enosis Neon Paralimni from Cyprus and the Bulgarian club Levski Sofia . In his first season, Bregman reached the final of the DFB Cup with his team , but they lost it 0-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt . Bregman came on shortly before the end, but could no longer prevent the defeat.

Bregman scored his first Bundesliga goal on the second match day of the 1975/76 season to 5-1 against Schalke 04, only a week later he scored against Kickers Offenbach just two minutes after being substituted on in the 71st minute. On the second match day of the 1976/77 season he initiated the 5-2 success of his Duisburg over the reigning European Cup winners FC Bayern Munich with the 1-1 equalizer . With a good sixth place in the 1977/78 season, the MSV qualified again for the UEFA Cup and even made it into the semi-finals in the following season , in which, however, Borussia Mönchengladbach had to admit defeat. Bregman was used both in the two semi-finals and, among other things, in the quarter-finals and round of 16 against Honvéd Budapest and Racing Strasbourg .

1979 Bregman returned to the Netherlands, where he was under contract with Roda Kerkrade for one season . At the beginning of the 1980/81 season , he moved back to the Bundesliga and hired Arminia Bielefeld , for whom he played an important role for two years.
