Lothar Wellschmied

Lothar Wellschmied (born January 22, 1936 in Leipzig ) is a former officer of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR . He was the first deputy to the head of the Management and Training Department.

Life

Wellschmied joined the SED , joined the MfS and joined the Management and Training Department (KuSch). He graduated from the Law School of the MfS (JHS) in Potsdam-Eiche in 1971 with the rank of captain as a qualified lawyer. At the same university he was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. Wellschmied was appointed major general as the last colonel of the MfS on October 2, 1989 by Erich Honecker as chairman of the GDR's National Defense Council. Most recently, he was first deputy head of the Management and Training Department (KuScH). The management departments 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 12, SV Dynamo as well as the district administrations of Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg and Frankfurt / Oder belonged to his management area.

After the reunification in the GDR he became a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR) and in 2007 head of the working group for clarifying the income situation in the MfS. He is also the deputy chairman of the spokesman's council of the “Initiative for Just Pensions”, which is a member of the East German board of trustees of associations . He lives in Berlin.
