Lothar Wolf (Linguist)

Lothar Wolf (* 2. December 1938 in Walldürn ; † 15. June 2012 ) was a German linguist , Frankokanadist , medievalist , Dialektologe and linguist.

life and work

Wolf passed the Abitur in 1958 in Weinheim . He studied Romance studies, English and Indo-European studies in Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Florence and Barcelona. In 1962 he passed the state examination at the University of Heidelberg . He received his doctorate there in 1966 under Kurt Baldinger with the work Linguistic Geographical Investigations on the names for pets in the Massif Central. Attempt to interpret language cards (Tübingen 1968). In 1971 he also completed his habilitation in Heidelberg with the thesis Terminological Investigations on the Introduction of Book Printing in the French Language Area (Tübingen 1979) and represented chairs in Trier and Munich. From 1973 until his retirement in 2004 he was a full professor for Romance linguistics with special emphasis on French at the University of Augsburg . From 1978 to 1982 he was also a senator at that university.

Wolf was an honorary doctor of the Université de Sherbrooke in Canada (1997).
