Ursula Reutner (born October 6, 1975 in Bayreuth ) is a German linguist and holder of the Chair for Romance Linguistics and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau .

Life

Ursula Reutner passed her Abitur in 1994 at the Richard-Wagner-Gymnasium in Bayreuth. As part of the Bavarian School for Talented Students, she studied European business administration , philosophy and art history as well as English, French, Italian and Spanish languages ​​and literatures at the University of Bamberg and the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV). She completed internships at the Goethe Institute in Chennai in India and at the German Embassy in Quito in Ecuador and was head of the Amnesty International university group in Bamberg. In 2004 she received her doctorate from the University of Augsburg with a thesis on language and identity . In 2007 she completed her habilitation with a thesis on language and taboo . Research and teaching stays have taken her repeatedly to France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. From 2001 to 2007 she worked at the chair for Romance Linguistics at the University of Augsburg. From 2007 to 2008 she represented the chair for Romance Linguistics at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

Since 2009 she has held the chair for Romance Linguistics and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau . She declined calls to the University of Heidelberg in 2011 and to the University of Paderborn in 2014. Since 2010 she has been Scientific Director of the Institute for Intercultural Communication and since 2014 Head of the Language Center at the University of Passau. From 2014 to 2018 she was Vice President for International Relations at this university.

In 2018 she received an honorary doctorate from the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires.

Research areas

Ursula Reutner examines multilingual societies of Francophonie and Hispanophonie with regard to questions of linguistic power distribution, language politics and language variation. She works out language taboos in everyday language and in special communication situations. In the case of digital spaces, she asks about linguistic universals and cultural specifics.
