Basri Dirimlili (born June 7, 1929 in Silistra , Bulgaria , † September 14, 1997 in Turkey ) was a Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is strongly associated with this club. On the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. Due to his self-sacrificing and unconditional style of play, he was called Mehmetçik Basri , Cengaver Basri or Asker Basri (German: Soldier Basri ) when he was a player . He later worked as a trainer or assistant coach in various clubs.

Player career

Dirimlili was born in 1929 to Bulgarian Turks in Silistra, Bulgaria. He later moved to Turkey with his family and settled in Eskişehir . Here he started club football in the youth of the Eskişehir Havagücü military club . He later made it into the club's first selection and played with the amateur selection of the Turkish national team at the 1952 Summer Olympics . Until late summer 1953 he played in Eskişehir for Eskişehir Havagücü and a short time for Eskişehir Demirspor.

He then moved to the traditional Istanbul club Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Here he fought for a regular place straight away and was twice champion of the regional İstanbul Futbol Ligi with his team . In the summer of 1959, the first championship of the newly founded and nationwide Süper Lig was won . The team managed to win the championship again for two years.

At the end of the season 1963/64 he left Fenerbahçe and moved to league rivals Karşıyaka SK . Here he took on the dual role of player -coach and also assisted the head coach Bülent Eken as his assistant coach. At the end of the season, the relegation failed, so Karşıyaka in the newly founded second highest division, in today's TFF 1. Lig , relegated.

National team

Dirimlili made his international debut on June 21, 1952 during the 1952 Summer Olympics in the 1: 2 victory of the amateur selection of the Turkish national team against the national team of the Netherlands Antilles . During the tournament you got to the quarterfinals.

In the following years he played for various national teams in Turkey. For the regular national team, he completed 27 games.

He took part in the 1954 World Cup with the Turkish national team. At the end of the group stage, they finished second in the table, tied with the German selection . Although they had the better goal difference, according to the rules at the time, the group runners-up was determined by a play-off between these two teams. Germany decided this encounter 7-2 for themselves.

Coaching career

Dirimlili already worked in his last station as a football player at Dirimlili Karşıyaka SK as an assistant coach. After his active career as a player, he then worked at various clubs as head coach. He also worked for Fenerbahçe for a long time as an assistant coach and assisted Ignác Molnár , Valdir Pereira , Traian Ionescu and Branko Stanković .
