Lotte Motz

Lotte Motz (born August 16, 1922 in Vienna ; died December 24, 1997 ) was an Austrian-American Anglic, German and Scandinavian Medievalist . Motz researched and published in particular on questions of Germanic mythology and religion in connection with other Indo-European cultures.

Life

Motz, born Lotte Edlis, fled with her family from the German Reich to the United States in 1941. At Stanford University and at the University of Wisconsin , she studied German language and literature as well as Germanic philology, including the old English language and literature, and received her PhD. phil. In 1955 she accepted a lectureship in Old English at Oxford University . She later moved to the City University of New York for a professorship for older German and English languages ​​and literature until her retirement in 1984.
