Lou Teicher

Lou Teicher (Louis Milton Teicher; born August 24, 1924 in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania , † August 3, 2008 in Highlands , North Carolina ) was an American pianist .

Musical career

From 1947 Teicher appeared together with the pianist Arthur Ferrante as Ferrante & Teicher . They became known for their flowery interpretations of the theme songs from films such as Das Appartement , Exodus , West Side Story ("Tonight") and Midnight Cowboy .

Both had attended the Juilliard School in New York City and later taught there. Their collaboration began in 1947, initially limited to classical music and a few experimental pieces. After with producer Don Costa of ABC Records to United Artists were changed, they offered this to, for the film The Apartment to play, and they were quickly crowd favorites. During their 50-year partnership, they released over 150 albums and sold more than 88 million records . They have also been regular guests on Ed Sullivan's , Johnny Carson, and Dick Clark's television shows .
