occupation

Louie is an American sitcom developed by Louis CK . In addition to the creator, author and producer, Louis CK is also the main actor of the series. He embodies a fictional version of himself, a stand-up comedian and newly divorced father of two daughters in New York City. The show has an atypical format for comedy series, as incoherent narrative threads and segments from the life of Louie are presented, interrupted by live stand-up appearances. It was first broadcast in the United States on June 29, 2010 on cable broadcaster FX .

The series received largely positive reviews in the USA and was able to win an Emmy , a Writers Guild of America Award , two AFI Awards and a Satellite Award .

The broadcast of the fourth season ended in the US in June 2014; a seven-part fifth season was commissioned in July 2014 and aired from April 9 to May 28, 2015.

After allegations of sexual harassment were raised against leading actor Louis CK in November 2017 and he admitted them, Sender FX announced the end of the collaboration and the discontinuation of the series.

action

The series is very loosely based on the life of Louis CK as a newly divorced father of two daughters and as a stand-up comedian. Each episode deals with two stories that are not necessarily related, or one longer story.

The narrative threads are interrupted by CK's live appearances, mostly in small New York comedy clubs, mainly the Comedy Cellar and Carolines in Manhattan . The stand-up interludes are original material that was recorded for the series, mostly from the stage perspective and not, as usual, from the viewer's point of view.

The pilot episode shows segments of a school trip and an embarrassing first date. Topics such as divorce, sex, depression, sexual orientation and problems of the Catholic Church are addressed.

characters

Louis CK (as Louie) appears as the only character in every single episode. The series has no permanent cast, instead many guest stars appear. As a stand-up comedian in New York, Louis' social environment consists largely of comedians. Therefore, other stand-up comedians and actors, such as Nick DiPaolo, Todd Barry, Jim Norton, Sarah Silverman and Chris Rock , are often seen in guest appearances .

Most of the episodes show Louie dealing with new characters. However, there are also recurring characters, such as his two daughters Lilly and Jane. Likewise, Pamela, played by Pamela Adlon , who has already played alongside Louis CK in the Lucky Louie series .

It is noticeable that there is no real continuity in Louie's environment. His ex-wife is played again and again by other actresses and siblings appear in some episodes and are then no longer mentioned.

Charisma

So far, all three seasons of Louie produced have 13 episodes each. The first season aired from June 29 to September 7, 2010 on FX . The second and third seasons also started at the end of June and ended in September. In July 2012, FX announced the production of a fourth season. The fourth season was broadcast from May 5 to June 16, 2014.

DVD and Blu-ray releases

20th Century Fox released the first season on June 21, 2011 on DVD and Blu-ray. The second season was released on June 19, 2012 on DVD and Blu-ray.
