Louis Antoine Ponchard
Louis Antoine Eléonore Ponchard (born August 31, 1787 in Paris ; † January 6, 1866 there ) was a French opera singer ( tenor ) and vocal teacher .
Life
Ponchard, son of the composer and conductor Antoine Ponchard (1758-1827), made his debut in 1812 in the opera L'Ami de la maison by André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry . In 1825 he sang the leading role of George Brown in the world premiere of the opera La dame blanche by François-Adrien Boïeldieu . He has also appeared in the world premieres of Boïeldieu's operas Petit Chaperon Rouge and Deux Nuits , the operas Joconde by Nicolas Isouard , Masaniello by Michele Carafa , Zémire et Azor by Grétry and several operas by Auber .
Ponchard taught singing at the Lille Conservatory. His students included Henri-Bernard Dabadie , Jean Baptiste Faure , Giovanni Mario , Louis-Henri Obin , Ernst Pasqué , Rosine Stoltz , Jean Baptiste Weckerlin , Charles Marie Ponchard and Gustave Roger . His son Jean Ponchard was also known as a singer.
