Louis-Auguste Marchand

Louis-Auguste Marchand, Baron de Plauzonne (born July 7, 1774 in Fontainebleau , † September 7, 1812 in Borodino ) was a French general of the infantry .

Enthusiastic about the ideals of the revolution , Marchand joined the revolutionary guards around 1790. He was an early supporter of Napoleon Bonaparte who advised him to pursue a career in the army. There Marchand was soon able to distinguish himself through bravery in the Revolutionary Wars and was promoted several times.

With effect from August 5, 1806, Marchand took over the leadership of the 5e regiment d'infanterie , one of the most prestigious infantry regiments of the Grande Armée .

In early 1811 Marchand came to Spain to help enforce Napoleonic politics . He fought bravely & a. before Oñoro (May 3-5, 1811) and took part in the siege of Figueres and Castell de Sant Ferran (April / August 1811).

When Napoleon was planning his war against Russia in 1812 , he also brought Marchand into his staff. Under the command of Eugène de Beauharnais , Marchand took over a brigade from Alexis-Joseph Delzons ' division. He was able to stand out for his bravery before Ostrowno (July 25/26, 1812) and before Borodino (September 7, 1812). In the latter, Marchand was killed and found his final resting place on the edge of the battlefield.
