Louis François II Joseph de Bourbon, prince de Conti (born September 1, 1734 in Paris , † March 13, 1814 in Barcelona ) was the only legitimate child of Louis François I and his wife Louise Diane d'Orléans . After the death of his father in 1776 he was the last Prince of Conti .

Life

Louis François from the House of Bourbon-Conti, a younger branch of the House of Bourbon-Condé since the 16th century , served successfully in the Seven Years War . In the dispute between the Chancellor and Parliament, he sided with Maupeou and advocated the continuation of the old constitution. He emigrated at the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789, but rejected the Allied invasion of 1790. He returned to France and was arrested as a monarchist in 1793 . He was released but robbed of all of his goods. The Directory later banned him from France. Louis François Joseph died in Barcelona and with him the House of Conti went extinct.

From 1759 he was married to Maria Fortunata d'Este , daughter of Duke Franz III. from Modena , from which he separated again in 1775. With Marie Anne Veronese he left an illegitimate son, Louis François, Chevalier de Vaureal (1761–1785).

His estate can be found in the French Archives nationales .
