Louis-Helmut Debes

Louis-Helmut Debes (born May 6, 1932 in Aschaffenburg ; † March 25, 2009 ) was a German music teacher .

Career

From 1951 to 1957 Debes studied piano, organ, harpsichord, conducting, as well as music education and church music at the Würzburg University of Music. He continued his training at the University of Würzburg with a degree in musicology, pedagogy and psychology and graduated in 1966 with a doctorate on "The musical works of Claudio Merulo <1533-1604>".

Then he was a lecturer at the Würzburg University of Education. After their incorporation, from 1980 he was Professor of Music Education and Didactics of Music Education at the Institute for Education at the University of Würzburg. Since 1986 he has been a curator and university organist . He built up the university choir and initiated the traditional Christmas concerts. In 1997 he retired.

He was also active as a choir director and organist in the parish of Our Lady in Würzburg for 55 years. In 1992 he took care of the construction of the three-manual Schuke organ in the parish church of Our Lady in Würzburg, in which he was involved from planning to completion.
