Louis-Jules Étex
Louis-Jules Étex (born September 20, 1810 in Paris ; † July 7, 1889 ) was a French painter, younger brother of the sculptor and painter Antoine Étex (1808-1889).
Étex was a student of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres . He showed his portraits at the Salon de Paris in 1833 and received a gold medal. He was then sent to Dresden by the French government to create a copy of Raphael's Sistine Madonna for the Saint-Caprais Cathedral in Agen in the Aquitaine region .
After completing the order, Étex visited Italy . Back in Paris he settled down at 15, Quai Voltaire, where he created not only portraits but also history and genre pictures.
Louis-Jules Étex was appointed professor at the École des beaux-arts de Paris . From 1845 Marcellin Desboutin (1823-1902) was one of his students .
