Wilhelm Theodor Kraut

Wilhelm Theodor Kraut (born March 15, 1800 in Lüneburg , † January 1, 1873 in Göttingen ) was a German legal scholar and university professor .

Life

Kraut enjoyed his education at the Johanneum Lüneburg and at the Gothaer Gymnasium Illustre . He then went to the University of Göttingen in 1819 . There he studied law. His studies were shaped by the historical school of law . He heard first Gustav von Hugo , then Johann David Michaelis lectures. In 1821 he moved to the University of Berlin , where he attended lectures by Carl von Savigny and Karl Friedrich Eichhorn . On 10 August 1822 he was at the University of Göttingen Dr. iur. PhD . In October of the same year he completed his habilitation there as a private lecturer .

Herb was born on July 1, 1828 to associate professor , then on 21 January 1836 Associate Professor of German private law appointed . On the occasion of the Hanoverian constitutional conflict of 1837, he and five other lecturers at the university wrote a pamphlet with which he wanted to prevent the dismissal of the Göttingen Seven by the Hanoverian King Ernst August . This request could not be enforced.

From 1850 to 1853, Kraut was an elected representative of the University of Göttingen and a member of the First Chamber of the Hanoverian Assembly of Estates . In 1870 he was given the title of Privy Councilor of Justice . He was also a member of the Juristentag and regularly attended its meetings without making any prominent contributions.
