Louis Auguste de Bourbon (1700–1755)

Louis Auguste de Bourbon, Prince of Dombes (born March 4, 1700 in Versailles , † October 1, 1755 in Fontainebleau ) was Duke of Maine and Prince of Dombes .

Louis Auguste was the eldest son of Louis Auguste de Bourbon , Duke of Maine and Louise Bénédicte de Bourbon . He was thus a grandson of King Louis XIV of France. In 1717 he served in the army of Prince Eugene in the fight against the Turks and was a participant in the War of the Polish Succession from 1733–1734 and the War of the Austrian Succession . From 1736 to 1755 he was Colonel General of the French Swiss Guard .

In 1751 his mother gave him the rule of Anet and the county of Dreux . He avoided the French court and stayed mostly in Anet Castle , whose lands he continuously expanded. He had a hydraulic system built there to divert water from the Eure into his garden.

Louis Auguste was not married and had no offspring. In 1755 he was killed in a duel in the Fontainebleau forest. He was followed as Prince de Dombes by his brother, Louis Charles de Bourbon (1701-1775), the Comte d'Eu, who was also neither married nor had heirs and in 1762 left the principality to the crown.
