Louis Dubois (born December 13, 1830 in Schaerbeek , † April 28, 1880 ibid) was a Belgian painter.

Louis Dubois was a follower of Courbet without being his pupil. His versatile works include portraits, landscapes, navies, genre paintings and still lifes, and in the luminosity of the coloring follow Jacob Jordaens .

In 1857 he exhibited the following pictures in the Brussels Salon:

  • The Redemptorist ,
  • A priest preparing for the sacrifice of mass.

1860 followed

  • The storks (1860, Brussels Museum),
  • Roulette ,
  • The choirboy .

The Brussels Salon of 1863 brought

  • Solitude , a large, realistically treated landscape, the center of which is a dead deer.

Other outstanding creations of Dubois are:

  • The billiards player ,
  • The Scheldt ,
  • Flemish interior ,
  • The mill ,
  • Autumn in the ardennes ,
  • Cranes and ducks ,
  • Sunset ,
  • Sunrise on a swamp ,
  • The Meuse near Dordrecht etc.

He died in Brussels on April 28, 1880.
