Louis-Ernest Cardinal Dubois (born September 1, 1856 in Saint-Calais , France , † September 23, 1929 in Paris ) was Archbishop of Rouen and Paris .

Life

Louis-Ernest Dubois studied in the seminary of Le Mans the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology . He received on 20 September 1879, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a parish pastor in the diocese of Le Mans . From 1888 he was editor of the newspaper Semaine du fidèle , in 1893 he founded the Union Historique du Maine . In 1895 he was appointed Honorary Canon of Le Mans Cathedral . From 1898 to 1901 he headed the administration of the diocese of Le Mans as vicar general .

In 1901 he was appointed Bishop of Verdun , but was released from this office at his own request. The episcopal ordination donated to him on July 2, 1901 Marie-Prosper-Adolphe de Bonfils , the Bishop of Le Mans; Co-consecrators were Bishop Étienne-Marie Potron and Charles Joseph Gilbert , former Bishop of Le Mans. On November 3, 1909, Pope Pius X appointed him Archbishop of Bourges ; in March 1916, Pope Benedict XV appointed him . took over the leadership of the Archdiocese of Rouen and took him on December 4th of the same year as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Maria in Aquiro in the college of cardinals . On September 13, 1920 the Pope entrusted him with the management of the Archdiocese of Paris. Cardinal Dubois attended the 1922 conclave . In 1926 he represented the Pope as papal legate at the National Marian Congress in Chartres .

Louis-Ernest Dubois died on September 23, 1929 in Paris and was buried in the crypt of the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.
