Louis Gaussen

Samuel Robert Louis Gaussen (born August 25, 1790 in Geneva , † June 18, 1863 there ) was a Swiss theologian and writer.

Life

Louis Gaussen had been pastor in Satigny near Geneva since 1816 , when the struggle of the strict believers against the state church there began. In 1832 he was deposed by the Geneva State Council because he and Jean-Henri Merle d'Aubigné had founded the theological school to maintain the old Calvinism ; at this he worked as a teacher from 1836 until his death on June 18, 1863.

Of his many writings, the following should be mentioned: Le canon des Saintes Ecritures au double point de vue de la science et de la foi , (Lausanne 1860, 2 vols.), German: The authenticity of the Holy Scriptures from the standpoint of history and faith , ( Hamburg: Oncken, 1870).
