Louis Henri Armand Béhic
Louis Henri Armand Béhic (born January 15, 1809 in Paris , † March 2, 1891 ibid) was a French politician and from June 23, 1863 to January 20, 1867 Minister of Agriculture, Trade and Construction in the Second Empire of Napoleon III. .
biography
Armand Béhic was the son of a Parisian banker. After studying law, he entered the financial administration. He became a member of the State Council under the Second Republic. At 35 he was Secretary General in the Ministry of the Navy. He was the députate of the North Department in 1846. After the French February Revolution of 1848 and the proclamation of the Second French Republic , he directed his activities increasingly towards industry and became director of the Vierzon ironworks , then director of the shipping company Services Messageries Imperiales . From 1863 to 1867, Béhic was Minister of Agriculture, Trade and Construction. From August 13, 1864, he was the responsible Minister of Education. On his behalf, Jules Guyot carried out several systematic, comparative studies on viticulture in France . For the Gironde department , Béhic was elected senator between 1876 and 1879.
In 1856 Armand Béhic founded with the support of Napoleon III. the Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée shipyard . The company originally consisted of a shipyard in La Seyne-sur-Mer and a steam boiler and engine factory in Marseille.
Béhic showed himself to be a capable manager and financial visionary. Until his death, he remained an advisor to the companies he had formed or developed, adapting their needs to evolving technology.
