Louis Jéhotte (pronounced Scheótt; born November 7, 1803 or 1804 in Liège or Paris, † February 3, 1884 in Brussels ) was a Belgian sculptor.

Life

Louis Jéhotte was the son of the die cutter Léonard Jehotte, who worked at the royal mint in Liège . He began his studies in Liège with François Joseph Dewandre , then lived and studied in Paris, Florence and Rome, where he initially joined Mathieu Kessels and then Bertel Thorvaldsen .

When he returned home, he executed the marble funerary monument of Archbishop Count Méan in St. Romualds Cathedral (Sint-Romboutskathedraal) in Mechelen , as well as the bronze statue of Prince Karl Alexander of Lorraine and Bar in front of the Palais de Charles de Lorraine in Brussels (1846), several portrait busts, among others

One of his main works is the bronze equestrian monument of Charlemagne, erected in 1867 on the Boulevard d'Avroy in Liège. A bronze statue of Cain is on the grounds of the Paleis der Academiën in Brussels.
