Louis Klein , actually Dominique Louis Antoine Klein (born January 29, 1761 in Blâmont , Département Meurthe-et-Moselle , † November 2, 1845 in Paris ) was a French Général de division .

Life

Klein began his military career in the Garde de la porte of King Louis XVI. Klein was not a royalist and should rather be seen as a supporter of the revolution . On October 1, 1787, he resigned from the Maison militaire du roi de France .

On January 25, 1761, Klein married Marie Agathe Pierron in his hometown and had a son with her; Édouard Marie Arsène (1784-1843). On January 12, 1792 he entered the Armée du Nord with the rank of Sous-lieutenant and made a very rapid career. As early as 1795 he was in the rank of Général de brigade on the staff of Michel Ney .

In the battle of Prussian Eylau , Klein commanded a cavalry division.

In 1808, Klein divorced with Napoleon's permission and on July 2 of the same year married Louise Caroline d'Arberg de Valangin (1779–1852) and had a son with her, Eugène Joseph Napoleon (1813–1872). His second wife was a maid of Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais .

In 1807 Klein was appointed senator and he held this office until April 1814. One of his last official acts was his demand for Napoleon's abdication. Since he publicly opposed Napoleon's return and also opposed his rule of the Hundred Days , King Louis XVIII made him during the Restoration . to the pair of France .

Louis Klein died on November 2, 1845 in Paris at the age of 83 and was buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery .
