Louis Leo Snyder

Louis Leo Snyder (born July 4, 1907 in Annapolis , Maryland , † November 25, 1993 in Princeton , New Jersey ) was an American historian and university professor who was one of the first to describe the rise of Adolf Hitler and who foresaw the consequences .

Life

Snyder graduated from St John's College in his hometown in 1928 and studied from 1929 as a scholarship holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the University of Frankfurt am Main , where in 1931 he wrote his dissertation The Personal and Political Relationships of Bismarck with the Americans as Dr. phil. received his doctorate . In 1932 he published an analysis of Hitler's rise and future under the pseudonym Nordicus in New York , with which he foresaw the takeover of the National Socialists. In the USA, he first worked at Columbia University in New York City, then moved to the City College of New York in 1933 , where he received a full professorship in 1953 and taught until his retirement in 1977. He died at his Princeton retirement home.
