Louis Noverraz
Louis Noverraz (born May 10, 1902 in Cully-Lutry , Vaud , Switzerland , † May 15, 1972 in Geneva ) was a Swiss sailor . He won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico.
Life
Noverraz has had a long career. He competed four times in the Olympic Games ( Summer Olympic Games 1936 (Kiel, Ylliam II , disqualified), Summer Olympic Games 1948 , (London, Ylliam VII, 7th place) & 1952 (Helsinki, Ylliam VIII, 6th place)). Together with Bernard Dunand and Marcel Stern , he won the silver medal at the 1968 Olympic Games with the 5.5 m IR (International Rule) in Acapulco. In his career he was able to record 1,500 victories, including the 1961 World Championships (Helsinki, 5.5 m IR) and two European Championships in 1953 (6 m IR) and 1968 (5.5 m IR), as well as the One-Ton Cup Event in Oyster Bay , New York 1953 where he became the first non-American to win this prestigious trophy. In 1970 Baron Marcel Bich asked him to support him as a skipper on the France I in the America's Cup .
In addition, Noverraz was also a racing car driver, in Bugattis (1st Grand Prix de Bern) in Formula 1 in 1949. In everyday life, Noverraz worked as an architect and was considered an excellent billiard player .
He competed for the SN Genêve .
