Louis Paul Lochner

Louis Paul Lochner (born February 22, 1887 in Springfield , Illinois , † January 8, 1975 in Wiesbaden ) was an American journalist and author of numerous books.

Life

Lochner came to Berlin in January 1921 as the Germany correspondent for the trade union correspondence The Federated Press . In May 1924 he moved to the Berlin office of the Associated Press (AP) in the same capacity , which he headed from 1928 to 1942. He was a commentator on the Nazi era and a critical friend of Germany with ties to the resistance , as well as a war correspondent. After the war he was an opponent of the Morgenthau Plan and initiated a private aid campaign for Germans. Later he chose Wiesbaden as his retirement home.

Lochner was President of the Overseas Press Club in New York. He has also written, translated and edited numerous books.
