Louis Preller

Karl August Louis Preller (born March 17, 1822 in Eisenberg (Thuringia) , † May 9, 1901 in Weimar ) was a German marine and landscape painter . He is the builder of the studio house named after him in Weimar.

Preller learned porcelain painting in his hometown Eisenberg. From 1838 he was a student in Weimar with his uncle Friedrich Preller the Elder at the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar. He later worked in Varel in the Oldenburg region and in Leipzig until he settled in Weimar around 1870. In Leipzig he was a pupil of Gustav Jäger . His works have been shown in exhibitions in Konstanz , Hamburg and Weimar. Two of his works were shown at the world exhibition in Philadelphia ( USA ) in 1876 .
